And please give it a try without these tools. You never know.

I'm looking forward to the results.

I made another test, this time with a NZB file with many files of 100MB each: memory limit set to 2GB, no speed limit, 40 connections with Usenet server (40 is max available with my usenet provider). I quitted TGPRO tool but I leave running Little Snitch (with network filter off, and network monitor on).

With these configurations, no problem at all, kernel_task memory = 1,5GB, Usenetic memory 500MB, I got "only" 35MB/s as transfer speed: during this transfer, I lowered connections to 30 and boom, I got 80MB/s transfer speed, kernel_task memory to 9.5GB, system unresponsive.

So the problem isn't 1GB file but network transfer speed and/or IO speed: in few minutes, I will retry with Little Snitch - network filter and monitor off, and if needed also without Little Snitch (I must to deinstall it to quit completely).

BINGO.

First I retried with Little Snitch with network filter and monitor off with same results: after some minutes, system unresponsive.

Next I uninstalled Little Snitch and voila', problem is gone: unbelievable

Tomorrow I retry some other tests (also with the first NZB file with 1 GB files) but now I really confident to get a solution for my problem.

The question now is: why Little Snitch (I think the best network monitor for OSX) does it behave this way?

Thanks for your support and help

P.S. Do you have a date for first release?

I am not familiar with little snitch so I can't say much about it, but mostly this kind of apps (just like TechTools) are buffering the data to process it and they are simply not fast enough and not optimised for handling big data. That might be the reason that your Mac is running out of recourses.

Anyway, I am glad that the problem is found and the issue isn't related to Usenetic.
It also means that Usenetic CAN handle big data at a very high speed :D

Usenetic will be officially released early Jan 2018.

Thanks for your help.

I am sorry but it's happened again (sigh).

I noted another factor: I started NZB download with 100Gb free on SSD and suddenly (after near 10 minutes) I have only 9 GB free (downloaded files was only 20GB), with kernel_task memory 9GB.

Then I paused NZB download, waited for 15 minutes and kernel_task return to 1GB and 80GB free on SSD.

I really don't understand, I start to think a disk cache problem (I have found this article: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questio ... usage?rq=1).

What do you think?

TIA

Loosing the 71 GB for a moment is strange indeed. I really have no idea what is causing this.

It is also strange that you didn't had any problems yesterday after stopping some other apps that were running in the background. Are you sure they are not active now?

Maybe the Activity Monitor can tell you more when this is happening?

I think the killer is: Avira Antivirus.

I think this antivirus scan every file written on each disk (during writing) and an high speed writing rate (multiple files in parallel) can explain this behaviour (but I don't know why yesterday, with a very similar NZb file, I did not have the same problem).

Now I uninstall antivirus (in 5 years I haven't any virus or malware on my Imac) and will retry again same tests.

For sure, this is not a Usenetic problem: I got identical behaviour with another usenet client.

Good to hear. The antivirus scanner might be the problem indeed.

Let me know.

I tried with 3 different NZB files and, until now, no problem.

I will continue to test in next days but I think the problem is gone.

Thanks for your support.

Congrats!
I am glad you figured it out.

Thank you.
